EAU CLAIRE, Wis. —
Gia Puch (Des Plaines, Ill.) kicked off the 2010 season the same way she ended the 2009 campaign — leading the way for the Saint Mary's University women's golf team.
Puch turned in rounds of 96-91—187 to lead the Cardinals to a 19th-place finish at the UW-Eau Claire Georgianni Memorial Invitational, which concluded Sunday afternoon at the Mill Run Golf Course.
UW-Eau Claire Blue cruised to the team title, posting a 36-hole total of 645, 20 strokes better than runner-up Gustavus. UW-Whitewater was third (688), while UW-Eau Claire Gold (689) and St. Olaf (696) rounded out the top five.
Along with Puch's 187, the Cardinals — who finished with an 827 team total — got a 104-102—206 from
Jenna Mrozinski (North St. Paul, Minn.), a 105-103—206 from
Lauren Ulbrich (Rochester, Minn.) and a 111-115—226 from
Kristine Froseth (Owatonna, Minn.).
The Cardinals are back in action on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 18-19, when the travel to Ripon, Wis., for the 36-hole Ripon Invitational.
