WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University of Minnesota women's soccer team headed into Wednesday's nonconference showdown against UW-River Falls riding an offensive high—having erupted for four second-half goals in a 4-0 win over UW-Superior on Sunday.
Unfortunately, Cardinal coach
Neil Cassidy probably wishes he could have saved one of Sunday's second-half tallies for Wednesday's game against the Falcons.
UW-River Falls scored the game's only goal in the fourth minute of overtime, handing Saint Mary's a 1-0 setback at Ochrymowycz Field.
Saint Mary's goalkeeper
Gabriella Pederson (Chaska, Minn.) and her UW-River Falls counterpart Erica Cimochowski stole the show through the 90 minutes of regulation, with both netminders stopping all four shots they faced.
In the overtime, however, the Falcons finally solved Pederson, as Carrie Anderson scored her first goal of the season 4:18 into the extra session to lift UW-River Falls to its first win of the season.
After back-to-back nonconference games, the Cardinals (2-4-1 overall) return to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, traveling to Arden Hills, Minn., for a 1 p.m. contest against Bethel.
