WINONA, Minn. — It's Monday morning, and time to take one final look back at the highlights of the week that was—by the numbers.
1: Mady Bodick (Savage, Minn.) recorded her first collegiate goal in the Cardinal women's hockey team's 3-1 win over St. Thomas last Saturday.
2: Molly Abraham (Sterling Heights, Mich.) scored a pair of unanswered goals—the game-winner as well as an empty netter—in the Cardinal women's hockey team's 3-1 win over eighth-ranked and previously unbeaten St. Thomas last Saturday. It was the second two-goal game of Abraham's career.
2: Chad Cesarz (Jackson, Mich.) scored two of the Cardinal men's hockey team's four goals in last Saturday's 5-4 nonconference loss to No. 11 UW-Eau Claire. It was the sixth multiple-goal game of Cesarz's career—including five two-goal games.
2 x 2: Brooke Schefchik (Stevens Point, Wis.) and
Jack McCormick (Milwaukee, Wis.) each recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the two longest freestyle events of the afternoon, leading the Cardinal swimming and diving teams to a pair of fourth-place team finishes at the Macalester Roger Ahlman Invitational last Saturday. Shefchik touched the wall in 5:40.83 in the 500 freestyle and added a time of 11:50.43 in the 1,000 freestyle en route to her two second-place times, while McCormick swam a 4:57.27 in placing second the 500 freestyle and added a time of 10:27.72 for his second second of the afternoon in the 1000 freestyle.
3: Three members of the Saint Mary's men's and women's cross country teams—
Austin O'Hare (Rushford, Minn.),
Brandon Krogman (Owatonna, Minn.), and
Alicia Berkenes (Buffalo, Minn.)—ran in their final collegiate race last Saturday at the NCAA Central Regional.
4: Jack Stang (Mendota Heights, Minn.) had two goals and two assists for the Saint Mary's men's hockey team in last Saturday's 5-4 loss to No. 11 UW-Eau Claire. It was the sophomore's first collegiate two-goal and multiple-point game
13: The Cardinal women's hockey team snapped a 13-game winless streak (0-11-2) against St. Thomas with their 3-1 win last Saturday. Saint Mary's last win against the Tommies had come on Jan. 29, 2011, when the Cardinals came away with a 2-1 win at the Saint Mary's Ice Arena.
16: Sixteen of the Cardinal men's basketball team's 24 made field goals in their exhibition game against NCAA Division I Western Illinois last Saturday were 3-pointers. Saint Mary's finished 24-for-49 from the field against the Leathernecks—including 16-for-32 from behind the arc.
17: Austin O'Hare (Rushford, Minn.) knocked 17 seconds off his all-conference 8K time at the MIAC Championships on Oct. 28, stopping the clock in 26:06 to place 43
rd overall and lead the Cardinal men's cross country team to a 21
st-place finish in the 31-team field at last Saturday's NCAA Central Regional.
17, 12: Kareem Anthony-Bello (Chicago, Ill.) scored a team-high 17 points and
Jason Timm (Brillion, Wis.) chipped in 12 in the Cardinal men's basketball team's exhibition loss to Western Illinois last Saturday.
24:36: Danielle Franke (Mounds View, Minn.) led the charge for the Cardinal women's cross country team at last Saturday's NCAA Central Regional, posting a 6K time of 24:36 to lead Saint Mary's to a 23
rd-place showing in the 31-team field.
28: Ashley Corcoran (Red Wing, Minn.) stopped a season-high 28 shots—including 12 in the second period (when Saint Mary's was outshot 12-3), and 11 in the third—in the Cardinal women's hockey team's 3-1 win over No. 8 St. Thomas last Saturday.
41: In his first collegiate start in goal,
Nick Nast (Oxnard, Calif.) stopped 41 shots in the Cardinal men's hockey team's 5-4 loss to nationally ranked UW-Eau Claire.
