WINONA, Minn. —
Daniel Sessler (Brookfield, Minn.) has faced a lot of shots during his four-year collegiate career between the pipes for the Saint Mary's University men's soccer team.
Â
But nothing compared to last Sunday's performance against Nebraska Wesleyan.
Â
Sessler, coming off a then-season-high eight-save effort against Saint John's on Saturday, stopped a career-best 13 shots in helping lead the Cardinals to a 1-1, come-from-behind nonconference tie with the Prairie Wolves.
And Monday afternoon, Sessler was recognized for his stellar week between the pipes, being named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defensive Player of hte Week.
Â
The Cardinal senior, who had stopped 12 shots in a game five times in his career, has now stopped 43 of the 53 shots he's faced, boasting a 1.35 goals-against-average and an .811 save percentage. He owns one shutout and has appeared in all eight games this season — including seven starts.
Â
Sessler and the Cardinals are back in action on Wednesday, heading to Appleton, Wis., for a 6 p.m. nonconference match against Lawrence.
