Stinson had a banner four-year career for the SMU fastpitch softball team — highlighted by one of the most dominating seasons in NCAA history in 1997. A regular in the Cardinals’ pitching rotation her first three seasons, Stinson took center stage in 1997 and had a season for the ages — striking out 286 batters in leading SMU to its first-ever NCAA Regional appearance. Stinson closed out her senior season ranking No. 1 in the nation with 13 strikeouts per 7 innings), while her 286 strikeout were third-most in NCAA history and her 39 consecutive scoreless innings ranked sixth in Division III history. A First-Team All-MIAC, All-Region and All-American selection in 1997 — not to mention being named First-Team Academic All-American twice, as well as SMU’s Outstanding Female Athlete and the Winona Daily News Sportsperson of the Year — Stinson closed out her collegiate career ranking No. 2 in program history in strikeouts (442), No. 4 in wins (40) and ERA (1.52), No. 5 in shutouts (8) and No. 6 in appearances (75)
