Highlights:

One of the first Saint Mary's coaches to introduce an organized program of intramural athletics. … Responsible for starting inter-high school tournament competition for Southeastern Minnesota in basketball. … Played important role in getting SMC admitted to the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) on December 4, 1926. … Athletic teams at SMC first became known as "Redmen" under Coach Skemp. … His 1924, 1925, 1927 and 1929 SMC football teams did not know defeat from teams of college classification.

In 1924 and 1925, SMC was State and Northwest Football champions. … At Homecoming on October 27, 1928, SMC defeated Notre Dame’s "B" squad 19-7. … Football teams under Skemp had 52 victories, 28 defeats and 6 ties. Skemp’s Redmen out-scored opponents 1477 to 731. … In 1924, 1925, 1927 and 1929, Redmen were awarded gold footballs for their state championships. … Coach Skemp built a spirit of winning and positive attitude that enabled his football teams to gain the respect of all those who became acquainted with Saint Mary's.
