• 3: Andrew Froese (Traverse City, Mich.) recorded his first collegiate hat trick — including scoring the game-winner in overtime — in the SMU men’s hockey team’s 5-4 win over Gustavus last Tuesday. Froese’s hat trick was the first by a Cardinal since 2015-16, when Bob Kinne, Jared Johnson, and Jay Heinle all recorded three-goal games.
• 3 x 2: Ryan Stoynich (Calgary, Alberta) picked up a single-game career-high three assists in the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 5-4 overtime win over Gustavus last Tuesday. Stoynich’s three points were also a single-game career-best.
• 4-0-0: With their 5-4, overtime win over Gustavus last Tuesday, the Cardinal men’s hockey team improved to 4-0-0 for the first time since 1972-73, when the Cardinals won their first 11 straight. Saint Mary’s did win five straight to kick off the 2001-02 season, but two of those wins vs. Finlandia were considered exhibition games. The Cardinals had their season-opening winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss to St. Thomas last Saturday.
• 21: With their 5-4 overtime win over Gustavus, the Saint Mary’s men’s hockey team has played 21 games decided by one goal or less — including 12 that have gone into overtime — over the last three seasons.
• 35: Al Rogers (North Haven, Conn.) finished with a season-high 35 saves in the Cardinal men’s hockey team’s 4-2 loss to St. Thomas last Saturday.
