Buerkle continued to carry a hot bat for the Cardinal baseball team in their lone game last week—a 9-6 victory over Viterbo.
The senior outfielder went 3-for-5—including a double—scored twice and drove in a pair of runs in the nine-inning victory.
Buerkle has been the team’s offensive leader, boasting a team-leading .577 batting average. Buerkle also leads or shares the team lead in runs (21), hits (30), doubles (6), home runs (4), total bases (50), slugging percentage (.962), walks (9), and on-base percentage (.651).
Buerkle had his season-opening 11-game hitting streak snapped against Wheaton last Saturday, but the senior picked up a hit in each of his last two games, while also reaching base safely in all 14 games this season. Buerkle has collected at least one hit in 122 of the 132 games he’s played in, while reaching base safely in 129 of those 132 games
