Ashley Betzold (Farmington, Minn.) tossed her first collegiate no-hitter—and the Cardinal fastpitch softball team's first since 2009—last Saturday, recording nine ground-ball outs and four flyouts, while walking two and striking out two, in the Cardinals’ 10-1, five-inning victory. Ironically, the starting pitcher in Saint Mary’s 2009 no-hitter—posted on March 14 against North Central—was Betzold’s sister, Mallory.
Betzold tossed her season-high 21st and 22nd complete games against Concordia last Saturday—tying her single-season school record, set a year ago. Betzold now owns a school-record 78 complete games.
Betzold, who has started 30 of the team’s 37 games in the pitcher’s circle, owns an 11-20 record and 2.97 ERA in 181.1 IP.
