Cave had an absolute monster week for the Cardinal men's basketball team, as the sophomore averaged 29.3 ppg — including a career-high 36-point effort in Saint Mary's 86-69 win over Macalester on Feb. 9 — and 7.7 rpg in SMU's three conference contests last week.
Cave kicked off his memorable scoring run by netting a team-best 23 points and adding seven rebounds, five assists, and four steals in the Cardinals' 68-65 loss to Hamline on Feb. 4. He followed that by scoring 29 points and hauling in four boards with three assists and two steals in Saint Mary's 88-83 setback at the hands of Bethel two days later.
And as good as Cave was in those two conference performances — they paled in comparison to what Cave did on Feb. 9 against Macalester, scoring a career-best 36 points and adding 12 rebounds en route to his team-leading fourth double-double. Cave went 11-for-20 with five 3-pointers and a 9 of 11 showing from the free throw line en route to his 36 points.
For the week, Cave finished 32-for-58 from the field — including 6 of 19 from the 3-point line — and was 18-for-21 from the free throw line. He also hauled in 23 rebounds, dished out 10 assists and had seven steals.
