Anthony torched Hamline, St. Olaf and St. Scholastica for a combined 77 points (25.7 ppg) and 27 rebounds (9.0 rpg) in leading the SMU men’s basketball team to a pair of wins — and a last-second loss — in its three contests last week.
Â
Anthony made an early statement on his offensive prowess last Monday, pouring in 33 points on 12 of 32 shooting from the field, with one 3-pointer, and an 8-for-10 showing from the free throw line against Hamline last Monday. Anthony knocked down a 3-pointer with 4 seconds remaining in overtime to tie the game at 85-85, only to have the Pipers hit a game-winning trey at the buzzer to deal SMU an 88-85 setback.
Â
Unfazed, Anthony was back at it two days later, scoring a team-high 26 points, and missing out on a second straight double-double by one rebound. The senior knocked down a four-point play with four seconds remaining in regulation to lift the Cardinals to a thrilling, come-from-behind 66-65 win over St. Olaf.
Â
And then there was Saturday … where Anthony closed out the week with a team-high 19 points and added nine boards in leading SMU to a 57-54 victory over the Saints.
Â
For the week, Anthony shot 50.0 percent from the field (29-for-58), with five 3-pointers, and a 14 of 17 effort from the free throw line. He also added nine assists and three steals.
