The Cardinal freshman was an unstoppable dual threat in leading the Saint Mary’s University fastpitch softball team to a 3-1 record — including a playoff-clinching sweep of Augsburg last Saturday — hitting .571 with four extra-base hits and a 1.000 slugging percentage, while going 2-0 with a 3.00 ERA and a pair of complete games in the pitcher’s circle.
Steffes closed out her four-game week going 8-for-14 en route to her team-best .571 batting average — including two doubles and a pair of triples — while scoring eight runs, delivering five RBIs, and swiping five bases on five attempts. Steffes recorded at least one hit in all four games, including a 3-for-4, two-RBI effort in a 7-4, Game 1 win over Augsburg last Saturday.
In the pitcher’s circle, the freshman right-hander was equally as impressive, tossing back-to-back complete games in her two MIAC starts, allowing eight runs – only six earned — on 15 hits in Game 1 wins over both Macalester and Augsburg.
