Game Summary
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team had Macalester right where they wanted them.
Or so they thought.
The Cardinals boasted a 51-47 advantage with 6:04 to play Saturday afternoon, and were so close to that seventh Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference win they could almost taste it.
Unfortunately for SMU, Macalester picked an inopportune time to find their shooting touch, as the Scots used a 19-5 run over the game's final six minutes to turn that 51-47 SMU lead into a 66-56 Macalester victory — and transform that sweet taste of victory into a rather bitter pill to swallow.
The Cardinals, who jumped out to a 29-26 halftime advantage, led by as many as 10, 39-29, early in the second half. SMU, however, could not find its shooting touch down the stretch — and the Cardinals' loss was Macalester's gain.
The Scots shot 54 percent from the field in the second half, knocking down 12 of 22 shots, including six 3-pointers, en route to their second win over the Cardinals this season. Lars Johnson led the way for the Scots, connecting on 6 of 7 3-pointers en route to a game-high 21 points.
Terrence Smith (Broadview, Ill.) scored 11 points and Michael Batterman (Fond du Lac, Wis.) added 10 for the Cardinals, who have now lost four of their last five heading into Sunday's showdown against Concordia.
