MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. — Linda Tierney (Cloquet, Minn.) and Nikki Farmer (Medford, Wis.) continued their assault on the Saint Mary's University swimming and diving record book during the second day of the three-day Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships Friday — and this time, they did it on their own.

Less than 24 hours after teaming up to help the Cardinals set new school marks in both the 200 freestyle and the 400 medley relays, Tierney and Farmer were at it again Friday, as Tierney set a new school record in the 400 IM, while Farmer became the school record-holder in the 200 freestyle.

Tierney stopped the clock in 5:03.05 to place 22nd in the 400 IM, while Farmer's time of 2:03.18 was good for 24th.

“We always talk about being at our best at the conference championships, and that's exactly where we are at right now,” said SMU coach Eric Lindquist. “Everyone is turning in amazing times — it's been really fun to see.”

Liz Flynn (Mahtomedi, Minn.), meanwhile, picked up an eighth-place finish in the three-meter diving, as the senior finished with a 324.65 total.

Mark Ross (Dubuque, Iowa) earned a spot in the consolation finals of the 100 backstroke, where he placed 11th with a time of 54.51. The SMU junior also posted a time of 4:24.27 in the 400 IM, missing a spot in the consolation final by less than one second.

During the opening day of the three-day event on Thursday, Farmer and Tierney teamed with Anna Smaron (Maple Plain, Minn.) and Abby Kratzke (Dent, Minn.) to eighth in the 200 freestyle relay with a school-record time of 1:43.98 — nine seconds faster than their qualifying time and three seconds better than the school mark, set in 1999. The same four then closed out Day 1 with yet another school record, posting a time of 4:14.93 — knocking four seconds off the previous school record, also set during the 1999 season.

Brian Baker (Wykoff, Minn.), meanwhile, got his first conference championships off to a roaring start, as the Cardinal freshman placed seventh in the one-meter diving, posting a 297.65 point total.
