• 1: Jordan Zabel (Elgin, Minn.) collected his first collegiate pitching win in Saint Mary’s 9-5, come-from-behind Game 2 win over Gustavus last Friday, tossing three innings of scoreless, one-hit relief.
• 1-1: The Saint Mary’s volleyball team went 1-1 in its first two matches of the season, falling to Augsburg 3-0, before rebounding with a 3-1 win over Concordia in the second match of the afternoon.
• 2: Last Saturday’s Masked Mayhem Opener was the Saint Mary’s track and field team’s second straight home meet. The Cardinals closed out the indoor portion of its schedule with the Saint Mary’s COVID Classic.
• 2 x 2: Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.) and Amber Chow (West St. Paul, Minn.) both recorded two-hit games in the Cardinal fastpitch team’s nonconference doubleheader against UW-La Crosse last Sunday. Schultz went 2-for-4 in the opener, while Chow was 2-for-3 in the nightcap.
• 2 x 3: Taylor Anderson (Waukesha, Wis.), Justin Weinberg (Eagan, Minn.) and Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.) all had two-hit games in the Cardinal baseball team’s MIAC split against Gustavus last Friday. Anderson had two hits in the opener, while Weinberg and Will Matthews had two-hit performances in the nightcap.
• 3: Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.) collected a team-best three hits in the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s doubleheader losses to UW-Platteville last Friday.
• 3 x 2: Matt Boone (Mindoro, Wis.) and Anna Swanson (Osceola, Wis.) each recorded three first-place finishes at the Masked Mayhem Opener last Saturday. Boone stopped the clock in 11.32 to win the prelims of the 100, then did that one better with a time of 11.16 in winning the finals. And the senior wasn’t finished, blowing away the field in the 200 with a winning time of 22.63. Swanson, meanwhile, led the way for the Cardinal women, posting three first-place efforts — winning the 800 (2:28.50), the javelin (37.27m), and running the anchor leg of the Cardinals’ winning 4x400 relay.
• 3 + 4: The Saint Mary’s baseball team scored three runs in the sixth inning and four more in the seventh to erase a 5-2 deficit and rally to a 9-5 win over Gustavus in the second game of the teams’ MIAC doubleheader last Friday.
• 4: The Cardinal track and field teams picked up four first-place individual finishes by athletes making their outdoor collegiate debut. Isaiah Brindamour (Hinckley, Minn.) recorded a first-place time of 2:05.04 in the 800 for the men, while Amanda Tuvey (West. St. Paul, Minn.), Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.), and Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.) posted firsts in the 1,500 (5:12.21), 400 (59.95), and shot put (10.53m), respectively.
• 4: After playing their first eight games of the season on the road, all four of the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s games last week — doubleheader against both UW-Platteville and UW-La Crosse — were played on their home field.
• 7: Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.) had his season-opening six-game hitting streak snapped in the Cardinal baseball team’s 10-3 Game 1 loss to Gustavus last Friday, but the senior responded with a 2-for-4 effort in the nightcap and has now had at least one hit in seven of the team’s eight games.
• 9: The Saint Mary’s baseball team’s nine runs in their 9-5 win over Gustavus last Friday were a season high.
• 10: Amber Chow (West St. Paul, Minn.) allowed just three runs on 10 hits over 10 innings in the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s doubleheader against UW-La Crosse last Sunday. Chow’s 10 innings including her team-leading third complete game in Game 1 vs. the Eagles.
• 12 + 16 = 1: Linnaea Wallis (Dresser, Wis.) recorded her first double-double of the season in the Cardinal volleyball team’s 3-1 win over Concordia last Saturday, posting 12 kills and 16 digs,
• 15-0: With their seven seventh-inning runs in last Friday’s doubleheader against Gustavus, the Cardinal baseball team has now outscored its opponents 15-0 in the seventh inning.
• 16: The Cardinal men’s and women’s track and field teams combined 16 first-place finishes at the outdoor season-opening Masked Mayhem Open last Saturday.
• 25: Ciarra McNally (Lewiston, Minn.) recorded a team-high 25 kills in the Saint Mary’s volleyball team’s matches against Augsburg and Concordia last Saturday. The freshman led the Cardinals in kills in both matches, tallying eight in SMU’s 3-0 loss to the Auggies and adding a career-best 17 in Saint Mary’s 3-1 win over the Cobbers.
• 46, 26: Mandy Schmidt (Mitchell, S.D.) dished out a team-leading 46 assists in the Cardinal volleyball team’s two matches last weekend, while Larkin Clem (Elk River, Minn.) chipped in 26. The SMU duo accounted for 72 of the team’s 80 assists in the two matches.
• 696: The Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s home-opener against UW-Platteville last Friday marked their first home contest in 696 days, dating back to April 28, 2019 when Saint Mary’s split its season-ending doubleheader with Bethel.
• 1000: With her 39th and final dig of the afternoon, DeJaye Baab (Wabasha, Minn.) recorded her 1,000th career dig for the Saint Mary’s volleyball team. Baab posted nine digs against Augsburg and 30 against Concordia in the Cardinals’ two matches last Saturday.
