• 1: Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.) launched her first collegiate home run in the Saint Mary’s fastpitch softball team’s 7-5, Game 1 loss to Concordia last Saturday. Schultz is the third Cardinal to launch her first collegiate HR this season, joining Cassie Sutor (Chicago, Ill) and Erin Sullivan (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.).
• 2: Alexis Nguyen (West Corvina, Calif.) stopped both Gustavus shots she faced in the SMU women’s soccer team’s 3-0 win over Gustavus last Sunday en route to her first collegiate complete-game shutout. The sophomore shared SMU’s 1-0 shutout win over Augsburg on April 18 with Kassie Arriaga (Chula Vista, Calif.).
• 3: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams recorded first-place finishes by Sydney Klausler (Lakeville, Minn.), Samantha Kubes (New Prague, Minn.), and Kyle Lichttenegger (De Pere, Wis.) at last Friday’s St. Thomas Invitational.
• 3: The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team got goals from three different players — Jordyn Matthews (Seattle, Wash.) Kaley Manglitz (Onalaska, Wis.), and Nicole Thompson (Riverside, Calif.) — in their 3-0 win over Gustavus last Sunday.
• 4: Justin Weinberg (Eagan, Minn.) went 4-for-5 with three RBIs and a pair of runs scored in the Cardinal baseball team’s 11-0 win over St. Olaf last Monday. Weinberg’s effort marked the Cardinals’ first four-hit game of the season.
• 4 x 2: Jordan Meyers (Eyota, Minn.) and Mackenzie Carey (Prescott, Wis.) both collected four hits in the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s two games against Concordia last Saturday. Meyers posted her second collegiate three-hit game in the opener and added a single in the nightcap, while Carey had two hits in each game of the twinbill.
• 5-7: Justine Schultz (Winona, Minn.) paced the Cardinal fastpitch softball team’s offensive attack in last Saturday’s 7-5, 10-6 losses at Concordia, going 5-for-7 with a home run and five RBIs. Schultz went 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs in the opener, before going 2-for-3 with three RBIs in the nightcap.
• 5: Pitchers Ryan Wolfe (Wabasha, Minn.) and Luke Gilbertson (Windom, Minn.) each picked up their team-leading fifth wins in the Cardinal baseball team’s sweep of Hamline last Thursday. Wolfe picked up his fifth win in his first relief appearance in SMU’s 9-4 Game 1 win, while Gilbertson landed win No. 5 with a complete-game gem in the Cardinals’ 8-1 win in the nightcap.
• 8: The Saint Mary’s fastpitch softball team’s eight hits in last Wednesday’s doubleheader losses to Saint Benedict came from seven different players. Jordan Meyers (Eyota, Minn.) had a hit in each game, while six other Cardinals all had one hit on the day.
• 9: The Saint Mary’s women’s soccer team’s 3-0 win over Gustavus snapped a nine-game winless streak (0-7-2) against the Gusties, dating back to a 1-0, double-overtime win on Sept. 29, 2010.
• 9 x 2: After having never thrown more than eight innings in his collegiate career, Luke Gilbertson (Windom, Minn.) tossed his second straight nine-inning, complete game in the Cardinal baseball team’s 8-1, Game 2 win over Hamline last Thursday. Gilbertson allowed one run on three hits, while striking out five and walking three.
• 11: The Cardinal baseball team’s 11 runs in their 11-0 victory over St. Olaf last Monday equaled their season-high and marked the fourth time this season SMU has plated 10 or more runs.
• 15: The Saint Mary’s track and field teams picked up 15 Top-5 performances at the St. Thomas Invitational last Friday, led by Matt Boone (Mindoro, Minn.) and Caroline Gearin (Osceola, Wis.). Boone delivered a second in the 200 (22.45) and a fourth in the 100 (10.87), and Gearin placed second in the pole vault (3.37m) and fifth in the 200 (27.05).
• 28-4: The Saint Mary’s baseball team won all three of its games last week — beating St. Olaf on Monday and sweeping Hamline three days later. The Cardinals outscored their opponents 28-5 in those three games.
• .625: Will Matthews (Geneva, Ill.) hit .625, going 5-for-8 with three doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored in the Cardinal baseball team’s MIAC sweep of Hamline last Thursday.
