WINONA, Minn. — It was a gray and gloomy day on the campus of Saint Mary's as the women's soccer team (8-4-2, 2-3-2) hosted the St. Olaf Oles (12-1-1, 6-0-1) for an afternoon matchup. The Cardinals struggled to find their rhythm and ultimately fell to the Oles, 2-0, in the conference contest while battling the weather conditions.
St. Olaf wasted no time applying pressure to start the game and was awarded a penalty kick in the fourth minute that the Oles just barely converted to put the Oles ahead early.
Things didn't get easier for the Cardinals, as the Oles added a second goal in the 13th minute. Despite settling in defensively, Saint Mary's headed into halftime down 2-0.
Looking to shift the momentum in the second half, the Cardinals pushed forward but couldn't break through. Samantha Munson had a promising look in the 78th minute, but her shot came up short.
The Cardinals managed to generate a few chances late in the match, but couldn't find the finishing touch, and the score held at 2-0 through the final whistle.
Anna Peckosh finished with two saves on 12 shots, playing the full 90 minutes. Munson led the attack with two shot attempts, while Lauren Fields added one of her own.
The Cardinals are set to hit the road this Saturday, October 18, for a 3:30 p.m. matchup against the No. 23-ranked Carleton Knights.
