WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's women's soccer team is heading to the postseason for the second season in a row.
The Cardinals battled Gustavus Adolphus to a hard-fought 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at Ochrymowycz Field, a result that clinched Saint Mary's a spot in the MIAC Playoffs as the No. 6 seed.Â
With the tie, the Cardinals (4-4-3 MIAC) advance to face third-seeded St. Olaf (8-1-2) in the quarterfinal round on Monday, November. 3, at 2 p.m. in Northfield, Minnesota.
Saint Mary's came out firing, dominating the attack with 19 total shots, including 11 on goal, but couldn't quite find the back of the net. Lauryn Skoruppa led the charge with five shots while McKenzie Munson added four shots, all on goal.Â
Defensively, Saint Mary's stood tall once again.Â
Goalkeeper Anna Peckosh was steady between the pipes, turning away all four shots she faced to record her fifth shutout of the season. The Cardinals back line was equally strong, limiting Gustavus to just eight total shots.
It was a complete team effort for Saint Mary's, one that secured not only a shutout on senior day but also a coveted spot in the MIAC postseason.
Next up, a quarterfinal showdown at St. Olaf on Monday, with kickoff set for 2 p.m.
