Cardinals Stumble Late in 4–1 Loss to Cobbers

MOORHEAD, Minn. — Saint Mary's (4–3–1, 2–1–0) came up short on the road Friday night, falling 4–1 to Concordia-Moorhead (3–5–1, 1–3–1). The Cardinals tied the game with a second-period power-play goal, but the Cobbers broke things open with three goals in the final frame.

Saint Mary's opened the game with strong energy, winning early draws and generating pressure in the offensive zone. Parker Anderson blocked shots, and Adam Prokop turned away multiple chances to keep the Cardinals within striking distance.

But Concordia capitalized on a short-handed break to put the Cobbers on the board at 3:29 for a 1–0 lead after one.

The Cardinals answered in the second period. After a major penalty on Concordia, Joona Juntunen ripped home a power-play goal at 12:18 off a feed from Cole Mickel, tying the game 1–1.

Prokop continued to come up big, including on a Concordia chance that rang off the pipe, helping Saint Mary's close out the period even.

But the third period belonged to the Cobbers. Despite early looks from Carter Newpower, Blake Arneson, and others, the Cardinals couldn't find the go-ahead goal.

Concordia struck twice in quick succession, at 18:22 and 17:55, to take control. With the net empty late, Concordia added an insurance goal at 1:38 to seal the 4–1 win. Prokop recorded a career high 43 saves.

The Cardinals have another swing at the Cobbers tomorrow at 2:00 p.m. at the Moorhead Sports Center.
