Baseball Drops Final Nonconference Game to Yellowjackets

WINONA, Minn. - The sun was shining at Max Molock Field today as Saint Mary's (20-16) took on the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior (18-17) in the teams final non-conference game. The game was back and forth action all day, with runs being produced in bunches for both squads. 
 
The Cardinals finished on the losing end of today's contest by a score of 6-8.
 
Eric Charest took the hill for the Cardinals, contributing three strong innings to the effort, giving up one run on five hits while striking out three.
 
The Yellowjackets struck first, scoring a run in the top of the second inning. 
 
Later on in the bottom of the third inning, Saint Mary's was able to score two runs off of a bunt, with a costly error, from sophomore Ryan Csida allowing him to reach third. Later senior Will Boeckman was able to drive in Csida on a sacrifice single to the shortstop, making the score 3-1.
 
Superior responded by putting up one run in the fourth inning, and retaking the lead in the fifth inning, scoring three runs on two hits. 
 
It was a big seventh inning for the Cardinals as Boeckman added two more RBI's to his statline, driving a double down the left field line, scoring Csida and Junior third baseman Daniel Sherman, and tying the game at five a piece.
 
Superior was able to take the lead in the eighth inning on a sac fly, but the Cardinals evened the score in the bottom half with a clutch RBI double from infielder Gavan Schulte, scoring Golden.
 
Superior was able to eventually take the lead and maintain it in the ninth inning, beating the Cardinals by a score of 6-8.
 
The Cardinals are back in action for Senior Day, as well as their last home series of the season against the Bethel University Royals on Sunday, May 4th. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
