WINONA, Minn. — Talk about a heart-stopper. The Cardinals called game in dramatic fashion. The Saint Mary's men's hockey team (10-7-2, 6-3-1) pulled off a thrilling 4–3 win over St. Scholastica (4-16-1, 1-10-1), capped by a clutch, late-game power-play goal that sent the home crowd into a frenzy.Â
Carter Newpower delivered the heroics, scoring twice, including the game-winner with just 22 seconds left, to seal the comeback. Cole Mickel had a standout night with a goal and two assists, while Paden Hicks and Joona Juntunen each dished out two helpers to keep the offense rolling.
Saint Mary's struck first and fast.Â
Cooper Smyl opened the scoring midway through the first period off feeds from Luc Cernohous and Hicks, and Newpower followed up with another tally just minutes later to give the Cardinals a 2–0 edge heading into intermission.
The Saints pushed back in the second, evening the score despite strong saves from Adam Prokop, who kept Saint Mary's steady under pressure.
Drama peaked in the third. St. Scholastica jumped ahead just 18 seconds in, but the Cardinals refused to blink. With time winding down, Mickel buried a power-play goal to tie it at 3–3 and then the magic happened.
With 22 seconds on the clock, Newpower found the back of the net again off assists from Juntunen and Mickel, delivering a buzzer-beating dagger that sealed a thrilling 4–3 Cardinals victory.

The Cardinals will look to host the Bethel Royals on Friday, Feb. 6 for a 7:00 p.m. puck drop.
