DULUTH, Minn. — After a tough loss the night before, Saint Mary's women's hockey team (8-8-2, 4-6-2) stormed back with an impressive 4–1 win over St. Scholastica (7-11-1, 2-9-1) at Mars Lakeview Arena and erupted for all four goals in a dominant third period.
Magali Fillion was rock-solid in net, turning aside 33 shots and giving the Cardinals the backbone they needed to mount the comeback.
Teagan Phillips led the offensive charge with a goal and an assist. Maggie Albers buried the game-winner and was perfect in the faceoff circle, while Kenzie Meland added a goal and blocked three shots. Ella Hennes capped the night with her first goal of the season, plus an impressive 11-for-16 performance on faceoffs.
The first period was a defensive battle, with both teams trading chances but neither breaking through.
St. Scholastica struck first in the second period, grabbing a 1–0 lead, but Saint Mary's didn't panic. The Cardinals kept pushing, creating chances on the power play and relying on Fillion's steady play to stay within reach.
Then came the third and it was all Cardinals.
Phillips kicked off the scoring spree late in the period to tie it up, and just minutes later Albers delivered the go-ahead goal off a beautiful setup from Reese Heitzman. Meland iced the game with an empty-netter, and Hennes put an exclamation point on the night with a late goal to seal the 4–1 win.
The Cardinals will be back in action in Arden Hills taking on the Royals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.
