Ruf struck out three and did not walk a batter en route to his first collegiate shutout and complete game — a seven-hit, 1-0 win over Mayville State last Wednesday. The win was SMU’s first season-opening win since the Cardinals kicked off the 2005 season with a 3-2 win over Valley City State.
