Weinberg was a virtual hitting machine during the Cardinal baseball team’s 10 spring games last week in Auburndale, Fla.
Weinberg started all 10 games, hitting a team-leading .526, going 20-for-38 —including recording two or more hits in eight of the Cardinals’ 10 games. The senior catcher/centerfielder collected five extra-base hits — two doubles, one triple, and the team’s two home runs — while scoring nine runs, driving in eight, and boasting a .538 slugging percentage and a .789 on-base percentage.
Weinberg, who drove in the go-ahead runs — and eventual game-winning runs — in each of the Cardinals’ last two wins — finished the week with three, three-hit performances, while posting a perfect 4-for-4, three runs scored effort against No. 14 St. John Fisher last Tuesday.
In the field, Weinberg compiled a .978 fielding percentage, recording 42 putouts and three assists, with just one error in 45 chances.
Weinberg and the Cardinals are back in action on March 20-21, heading to Carol Stream, Ill., for a pair of nine-inning games against Dominican (11 a.m.) and Wheaton (5 p.m.), followed by an 11 a.m. against Cornell the following morning.
