WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team locked up its first-ever Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title Wednesday evening, routing Gustavus in three straight games, 15-8, 15-9, 15-5.
With the victory, the Cardinals improved to 10-1 in the MIAC and 23-6 overall and locked up the No. 1 seed for the upcoming MIAC Championships, which will be held on the Cardinals' home court Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4.
Amanda Edmond (Sandstone, Minn.), one of eight SMU seniors honored on Senior Night, led the Cardinals with 10 kills and a .389 attack percentage, while
Leslie Nicholls (Hastings, Minn.) chipped in nine kills and
Amber Rajtora (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) picked up 31 set assists.
The Cardinals, who have now won a season-high eight straight matches — dropping just five games in the process, close out their regular-season schedule next Tuesday, playing host to cross-town rival Winona State in a 7:30 p.m. match.
