Game Summary
ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University hockey team scored six unanswered goals, erasing a suprising 2-0 second-period deficit, en route to a 6-2 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game against Hamline Saturday evening.
After a scoreless first period, Hamline scored back-to-back goals just 12 seconds apart early in the second period to take a 2-0 advantage. Down, but far from out, the Cardinals responded with four second-period in the period's final nine minutes to take the lead for good.
After failing to convert on any of their first 16 shots, however, the Cardinals made good of six of their final 16 — as Denny O'Connor (Roseville, Minn.), Ryan Holland (Winona, Minn.), Matt Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) and Todd Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) scored second-period tallies and Lenny Hofmann (Sartell, Minn.) and Josh Knudtson (Austin, Minn.) completed SMU's six-goal onslaught with third-period goals en route to the win.
The Cardinals (2-1-1) step out of conference play this weekend, traveling to UW-River Falls on Friday and UW-Stout on Saturday.
