Game Summary
RIVER FALLS, Wis. — UW-River Falls scored three first-period goals and held the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team to 23 shots on goal in handing the Cardinals a 5-2 nonconference setback Friday evening.
The Cardinals got on the board first, getting a power-play goal from Matt Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) just 2:07 into the first period. The Falcons, however, responded with three unanswered goals of their own to take a commanding 3-1 lead — a lead they would not relinquish en route to their seventh straight victory.
Ryan Stinson (Winona, Minn.) pulled the Cardinals within one with an unassisted goal at the 4:20 mark of the second period, but UW-River Falls answered six minutes later, then added an insurance goal midway through the third period to ice the victory.
Eric Richardson (Skokie, Ill.) took the loss in goal, stopping 26 of the Falcons' 31 shots on goal.
SMU (2-2-1 overall) returns to action Saturday evening, traveling to Menomonie, Wis., to take on UW-Stout in a nonconference game.
