Game Summary

KENOSHA, Wis. — The Saint Mary's University men's basketball team dropped its season-opener Saturday evening as Carthage outscored the Cardinals 42-33 in the second half en route to the 77-68 nonconference victory.

Jason Dzick (Duluth, Minn.) led the Cardinals with 19 points, while Nick Michaels (Dyer, Ind.) and Brett Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) also finished in double figures, scoring 13 and 11 points, respectively.

The Cardinals battled Carthage to a 35-35 tie after the game's first 20 minutes, but they were no match for the nation's fourth-ranked Division III team in the second half.

SMU returns to action Wednesday, traveling to Oshkosh, Wis., for a nonconference game against UW-Oshkosh.
