ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team rebounded from a disappointing
2-0 loss against St. Benedict Friday evening with an impressive
8-0 victory on Saturday in the team's rematch.
Missy Westergren (Lonsdale, Minn.) scored three goals and
Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) added two as the Cardinals improved to 1-1-0 in the MIAC and 3-2-0 overall.
After failing to score a goal despite peppering the St. Benedict goal with 47 shots in Friday's game, the Cardinals scored early and often in Friday's rematch, getting a goal from
Tasa Kostel (Rochester, Minn.) scored just 56 seconds into the game. By the time the first 20 minutes had ended, McCabe had scored both of her goals and
Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) had netted another as SMU took a commanding 4-0 advantage.
Westergren and
Laura Wyness (Chicago, Ill.) pushed the lead to 6-0 in the second period and Westergren completed her first hat trick of the season wiht two goals in the the third period.l
Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.) picked up the win in goal, stopping all 42 Blazer shots for the shutout.
