CHICAGO, Ill. — The Saint Mary's University women's bsaketball team suffered through a severe case of cold shooting in the championship game of the Midway Classic Sunday afternoon as the Cardinals shot just 28 percent from the field in losing to host University of Chicago 51-40.

Jenny Gilles (Keizer, Ore.) led the Cardinals with 16 points, while Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) — who, along with Jenny Long (Westmont, Ill.), was named to the all-tournament team — chipped in the season's first double-double, finishing with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.

The Cardinals struggled from the field all day, hitting just 9 of 25 attempts in the first half, then slumping to just 5 of 24 in the second half.

SMU (1-1) returns to action Wednesday, Nov. 29, playing host to Winona State University at 5:30 p.m.
