Stinson scores twice to lead SMU

Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Ryan Stinson (Winona, Minn.) scored twice and fellow Winona native Ryan Holland added a goal and two assists and a third Winona native, J. Reszka, chipped in an assist as the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team routed Northland 9-1 in a nonconference game Monday evening at the SMU Ice Arena.

The Cardinals, who improved to 4-2-1 overall, pelted the Northland goal with 68 shots en route to their season-high offensive output.

Todd Hangge (Rochester, Minn.), Peter Benecke (St. Louis, Mo.) and Stinson all scored first-period goals, while Sam Phillips (Red Wing, Minn.), Colin Emans (Hutchinson, Minn.), Nate Agard (Stillwater, Minn.) and Holland found the net in the second frame. Jason Fillipp (Fox River Grove, Ill.) and Stinson closed out the scoring in the third period.

The Cardinals are now off until Friday, Dec., 1, when they play host to Marian in nonconference game beginning at 7:05 p.m.
