Game Summary

HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team scored the game's final two goals Saturday afternoon — unfortunately, Colgate scored the game's first three en route to a 3-2 nonconference victory.

Colgate scored twice in the game's opening 20 minutes, outshooting SMU 22-3 in the process, then had to hold off a late SMU rally to post its fourth win in five games.

Heather Murphy opened the scoring for Colgate early in the first period, and before the period was over Nicole Lehroff had also beaten SMU goalie Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.), who finished with 49 saves.

Colgate upped its lead to 3-0 on a goal by Katie Hreen at the 14:54 mark of the second period. Missy Westergren (Lonsdale, Minn.) got the Cardinals on the board with less than three minutes remaining in the second stanza, and Tasa Kostel (Rochester, Minn.) pulled SMU within one midway through the third period, but the Cardinals could not get the equalizer in falling for the third time in six games.

The same two teams sqaure off Sunday at 1 p.m.
