Cardinals' special teams too much

Game Summary

HAMILTON, N.Y. — The Saint Mary's University women's hockey team completed its trip to New York in winning fashion Sunday afternoon, as the Cardinals scored four powerplay goals and added two shorthanded tallies in a 6-3 nonconference win over Colgate.

Colgate won the inital meeting between the two teams, posting a 3-2 triumph Saturday afternoon.

Both teams scored twice in the first period, with Kelly O'Neil (Richfield, Minn.) and Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) netting a powerplay and shorthanded goal, respectively, for SMU.

The Cardinals put the game out of reach in the second period, scoring three times on five shots. Tasa Kostel (Rochester, Minn.) and Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) netted powerplay goals, while Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) scored the first of her two goals shorthanded with less than two minutes remaining in the period.

Missie Meemken (St. Cloud, Minn.) finished wiht 34 saves in goal for the Cardinals, who return to action Friday, traveling to UW-Stevens Point for a nonconference game.
