ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team saw its two-game conference winning streak to an abrupt halt Saturday afternoon as Gustavus used a 40-34 second-half scoring run to pull away from the Cardinals en route to a 74-64 MIAC victory.
Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.) scored a team-high 17 points and
Jenny Gilles (Keizer, Ore.) added 13 ponits, but it was not enough as the Cardinals dug a four-point, 34-30 halftime hole they could not dig themselves out of.
Colleen O'Hearn (Champlin, Minn.) finished with 10 points for the Cardinals (2-1 MIAC, 3-3 overall), whlie Stacey Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) pulled down 10 rebounds.
Gustavus (2-1, 4-1) also had three players score in double figures, led by Tricia Niebuhr's game-high 19 points. Niebuhr also finished with 11 rebounds to complete the double-double.
The Cardinals are now off until Jan. 3, when they travel to St. Thomas for a 5:30 p.m. MIAC game.
