Cardinals drop Hamline 57-43 for second straight win

WINONA, Minn. — Jenny Gilles (Keizer, Ore.) scored a team-high 16 points and Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) pulled down 10 rebound as the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team won its second straight game, beating Hamline 57-43 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at the SMU Gym Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals' defense held Hamline to just 39 percent shooting from the field (19-for-48) and just 18 percent from the free throw line (3-for-16), while forcing 30 Piper turnovers.

Jamie Lee (Eden Prairie, Minn.) and Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.) also scored in double figures for the Cardinals (4-2 MIAC, 5-4 overall), netting 15 and 11 points, respectively. Jessica Barrett posted a double-double, scoring 17 points and adding 11 rebounds in the losing effort for Hamline, which lost for the ninth time in 10 games.
