Game Summary

WINONA, Minn.. — Emily Kearns (Hopkins, Minn.) scored four goals — including three straight in an eight-minute span in the first period as the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team routed Bethel 10-2 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game at the SMU Ice Rink Thursday evening.

Kearns scored the Cardinals' first three goals and Monica Deringer (Brooklyn Park, Minn.) scored the first of her two goals as SMU grabbed a 4-0 first-period advantage. Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.), Deringer and Mo Hayes (Cottage Grove, Minn.) all netted second-period goals and Missy Westergren (Lonsdale, Minn.), Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) and Kearns all scored in the third period as SMU ran its conference record to 6-2-0, while improving its overall mark to 9-4-0.

Emily Louwsma and Brandi Schmidgall scored second-period goals for Bethel, while Royals' goalie Kim Myers faced 36 shots, stopping 26.

SMU goalie Nitara Frost (North Mankato, Minn.) improved to 4-0-0, stopping eight Bethel shots.
