Game Summary

NORTHFIELD, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's hockey team rallied from a 3-0 second-period deficit and got a goal from Peter Benecke (St. Louis, Mo) midway through the third period as the Cardinals salvaged a 4-4 tie with St. Olaf Saturday evening.

The Cardinals (2-2-2) spotted St. Olaf a 3-0 lead just five minutes into the second period, but scored three unanswered goals in a span of five minutes — the first by Nick Meeker (Rochester, Minn.) at the 8:32 mark, followed by tallies by Todd Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) and Jason Fillipp (Fox River Grove, Ill.).

St. Olaf regained the lead, 4-3, before the end of the second stanza, but Benecke's powerplay goal eight minutes into the third period earned SMU the tie.

Eric Richardson (Skokie, Ill.) finished with 32 saves for the Cardinals, while St. Olaf's Garret Hasti had 29 saves.
