WINONA, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's basketball team shot 18 percent from the field in the first half, managing just 19 points as Macalester raced to a 34-19 halftime advantage and rolled to a 66-56 win over the Cardinals Wednesday evening at the SMU gym.
The Cardinals (4-5 MIAC, 5-7 overall) more than doubled their field goal output in the second half, hitting 13 of 37 shots, but it wasn't nearly enough as the Scots handed SMU its third straight loss.
Stacy Hammel (Manitowoc, Wis.) scored a game-high 19 points and
Alissa Erichsen (Spring Valley, Wis.) added 10 for the Cardinals. Afton Hanson scored 17 points and Jehan Adamji netted 10 for Macalester, which won for just the second time in 10 MIAC contests.
For the game, the Cardinals hit 19 of 69 attempts from the field — including just 2 fo 9 from the 3-point line, while Macalester shot nearly 50 percent from the field, nailing 22 of 48 attempts.
