Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Dusty Ward (Lakeville, Minn.) scored a team-high 19 points and Jason Dzick (Duluth, Minn.) chipped in 17 as the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team snapped its nine-game losing streak with a 76-60 nonconference victory over Viterbo at the SMU gym Monday evening.

The Cardinals, who had not won since an 80-70 overtime victory over St. Olaf on Dec. 6, shot 56 percent from the field in the second half — outscoring the V-Hawks 44-32 in the game's final 20 minutes — to ice the victory.

Aaron Bennet netted a game-high 27 points, hitting 10 of 16 field goals, including 6 of 7 from 3-point range, in the losing effort for Viterbo (7-16).

Along with Ward and Dzick, the Cardinals — who did not shoot a free throw in the first half, but nailed 16 of 19 in the second half — also got 13 points and 11 rebounds from Nick Michaels (Dyer, Ind.).
