Second-half run carries UST past SMU

Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — St. Thomas used a 19-2 run to start the second half to break open a close game and carry the Tommies to an 87-67 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory over theSaint Mary's University men's basketball team Wednesday evening.

The Cardinals, who have not beaten the Tommies in their last 26 meetings, held a 36-31 edge late in the first half, before settling for a 41-41 halftime tie. The second half, however, was a different story, as UST used its 19-2 outburst to push its lead to 60-43 with 12:41 to play.

Andy Bohnker (Story City, Iowa) scored a team-high 17 points and pulled down seven rebounds, while Dusty Ward (Lakeville, Minn.) finished with 10 points for the Cardinals (1-2 MIAC, 1-5 overall).

Mark Buri scored a game-high 20 points to lead trio of Tommies in double figures as 25th-ranked St. Thomas improved to 5-1 in the MIAC and 7-1 overall.
