Game Summary

WINONA, Minn. — Missy Westergren (Lonsdale, Minn.) and Tennie McCabe (Rochester, Minn.) each scored three goals and Sarah Gibbons (LeMont, Ill.) added two as the Saint Mary's University women's hockey team routed St. Olaf 12-0 at the SMU Ice Arena Tuesday evening.

The Cardinals raced out to a 5-0 first-period advantage on goals by Westergren, McCabe, Gibbons, Christy Hicks (Bloomington, Minn.) and Beth Zubrzycki (South St. Paul, Minn.). McCabe, Westergren and Gibbons pushed the lead to 8-0 after two periods, while McCabe and Westergren completed their hat tricks as part of a four-goal third period for the Cardinals. Kelly O'Neil (Richfield, Minn.) and Tasa Kostel (Rochester, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other two third-period tallies.

The Cardinals (10-2-0 MIAC, 14-4-0) completely dominated the Oles, holding St. Olaf to just two shots on goal — both in the second period. SMU outshot the Oles 26-0 in the first period, 20-2 in the second and 18-0 in the third. St. Olaf goalie Amanda Chumbley finished with 52 saves, while SMU's Nitara Frost (North Mankato, Minn.) picked up the two-save shutout.
