Game Summary
WINONA, Minn. — St. Thomas connected on 22 of 28 free throws inthe second half as the Tommies held off a second-half rally by the Saint Mary's University men's basketball team en route to a 65-55 victory Wednesday evening at the SMU gym.
The Tommies (9-4 MIAC, 13-4 overall) jumped out to a nine-point halftime advantage, thanks in part to the Cardinals' dismal shooting from the field, in which they managed to hit just 8 of 25 attempts — including an 0-for-6 effort from the 3-point line. UST hit just 6 of 22 field goal attempts in the second half, but 22 points from the charity stripe helped preserve the victory, the 27th straight time the Tommies have beaten SMU.
Jason Dzick (Duluth, Minn.) scored a game-high 18 points for the Cardinals, but he was the only SMU player with more than seven. Mychal Brenden netted 14 points, while Mike Wrobel finished with 13 and Mark Buri tallied 12 for the Tommies.
