Match Sumnmary
INDIANOLA, Iowa — After snapping out of a three-match losing streak with a 3-0 win over Hamline last Wednesday, the Saint Mary's University volleyball team was hoping to put together an extended winning streak at the Simpson Invitational.
Unfortunately, nationally ranked UW-Whitewater had other ideas, as the Warhawks blanked SMU 3-0 (30-23, 30-26, 30-25) in the first match of the tournament. The Cardinals bounced back with a 3-0 win of its own in their second match, crushing Westminster 30-23, 30-14, 30-24.
Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the way for SMU against UW-Whitewater, collecting 12 kills, three aces and 12 digs.
Ashley Dingels (Gibbon, Minn.) chipped in 10 kills and three blocks, while
Melissa Cowan (Algonquin, Ill.) tallied 40 assists and four aces.
Against Westminster, Dingels led three players in double figures with 13 kills. Koertgen chipped in 12 kills and
Mollie Melton (Oronoco, Minn.) hit a remarkable .750 en route to her 10-kill effort. Dingels and
Katie Christensen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) each finished with four blocks, while Cowan dished out 41 assists and
Kirstan Rouzer (Comstock, Wis.) recorded 11 digs.
