Game Summary

ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University men's soccer team snapped out of its five-game funk in a big way Wednesday afternoon as the Cardinals routed Hamline 4-1 in a Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference game.

Eric Brown (Cary, Ill.) had a hand in all four SMU goals, assisting on the Cardinals' three first-half goals, then scoring their fourth goal midway through the second half.

Michael Kroll (Cary, Ill.) scored the Cardinals' first two goals seven minutes apart early in the first half as SMU raced out to a 2-0 advantage before the game was even 13 minutes old. Hamline's Derek Vinge cut the lead in half at the 24-minute mark, but Michael Lardner (St. Joseph, Mich.) pushed SMU's advantage back to two, 3-1, before halftime, and Brown iced the win with his team-leading seventh goal of the season 22 minutes into the second half.

Matt Peck (Eau Claire, Wis.) and Josh Simonson (Chanhassen, Minn.) shared duties in goal for the Cardinals, with Peck making two saves through the first 76 minutes, while Simonson stopped the lone shot he faced over the game's final 14 minutes.
