Game Summary

ST. JOSEPH, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University women's soccer team is learning the hard way that a collegiate soccer game consists of two, 45-minute halves.

In other words, a complete game is 90 minutes long.

Last Tuesday against Hamline, the Cardinals struggled through an eight-minute lapse that saw the Pipers break open a scoreless tie with four unanswered goals en route to a 4-1 victory.

Eight minutes.

On Saturday against St. Benedict, the Cardinals once again experienced a momentary lapse — and once again, it proved costly

The Cardinals held the high-flying Blazers to just one goal in the game's first 45 minutes. Back-to-back goals by Katie Blackman and AmyJo Boushek 20 minutes apart early in the second half gave CSB a 3-0 advantage — but with more than 30 minutes of soccer still to be played, the Cardinals were still very much alive.

Over the game's final six minutes, however, the Blazers netted four goals en route to a 7-0 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference victory.

Boushek scored two goals for CSB, whlie Blackman, Kirstan Horn, Mel Ahema, Kelly Midbrod and Kristin Beggin also scored for the Blazers.

Colleen O'Hearn (Champlin, Minn.) took the loss in goal for SMU (1-7-1 MIAC, 3-10-2 overall), despite making 15 saves.
