ST. PAUL, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University volleyball team wasn't messing around Friday evening in its Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match against Macalester.
Just two days after dropping a 3-1 decision to league-leading and unbeaten St. Olaf, the Cardinals took out their frustrations on the host Scots, winning 30-27, 31-29, 30-25.
Tracy Koertgen (Crystal Lake, Ill.) led the way for SMU (5-2 MIAC, 9-10 overall), posting a match-high 15 kills, while boasting a .360 attack percentage and adding three blocks. Kirstan Rouzer (Comstock, Wis.) finished with 11 kills and eight digs, while Rhonda Thibault (Faribault, Minn.) chipped in 10 kills and a team-high five blocks. Melissa Cowan (Algonquin, Ill.) had 43 assists and Leslie Nicholls (Hastings, Minn.) recorded a match-leding 12 kills.
The win, which snapped a three-match losing streak for the Cardinals, keeps SMU in second place in the conference race heading into Saturday's MIAC match at St. Catherine.
