Game Summary

ST. PETER, Minn. — The Saint Mary's University and Gustavus men's basketball teams entered Saturday's Minnesota Intercollegiate Atheltic Conference game in the midst of a pair of season-long streaks.

Forty minutes later — unfortunately for the Cardinals — both streaks were still in tact.

With four players scoring in double figures, the Gusties extended their season-long winning streak to eight straight games — and extended SMU's season-long losing streak to five in a row — with an 87-56 victory.

Gustavus led from start to finish, outscoring SMU 37-27 in the first half, then using a 50-38 scoring advantage in the second half to seal the win. The Gusties shot 54 percent from the field (29-for-54) and nailed 22 of 25 free throws, while the Cardinals shot just 37 percent from the field (23-for-62).

Jason Dzick (Duluth, Minn.) led three SMU players in double figures, scoring 17 points. Brett Johnson (Onalaska, Wis.) and Nick Michaels (Dyer, Ind.) each chipped in 10 points for the Cardinals, while Eric Nelson's game-high 21 points led four GAC players in double figures.

The Cardinals return to action Sunday at home against Concordia.
