RIVER FALLS, Wis. — Jim Murphy and Jess Johnson each recorded a goal and an assist and goalie Jacque Vezina was his All-American self as UW-River Falls handed the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team a 4-0 nonconference setback Saturday evening.
The Cardinals, who had their four-game unbeaten streak snapped with the loss, managed just 19 shots on the Falcons' net — including just two in the second period — with Vezina turning aside each one.
Johnson opened the scoring for the Falcons at the 14:51 mark of the first period. Mike Solmela and Jamie Steinert each scored second-period goals — with Steinert's coming with just 15 seconds remaining in the period — with Murphy rounding out the scoring at the 8:30 mark of the third period.
Dave Rogalski (St. Louis Park, Minn.) finished with 33 saves in goal for the Cardinals (8-2-1 overall).
