WINONA, Minn. —
Jenny Gilles (Keizer, Ore.) led a trio of players in double figures as the Saint Mary's University women's basketball team put together its second straight complete-game performance, this time getting the victory for their efforts as the Cardinals beat Concordia 75-64 Monday evening at the SMU gym.
It was the first time the Cardinals had beaten the Cobbers since 1985, a span of 31 straight games. SMU defeated the Cobbers 72-48 that year.
The Cardinals, who dropped a heartbreaking 82-80 overtime game to Carleton on Saturday, held Concordia to 29 percent shooting in the second half (7-for-24), erasing a five-point halftime deficit in improving to 9-10 in the MIAC and 10-12 overall.
Gilles finished with a game-high 15 points, while
Alissa Erichsen (Spring Valley, Minn.) chipped in 13 and
Jenny Rihm (Woodbury, Minn.) added 10 for the Cardinals, who made 7 of 12 3-pointers — including three by Erichsen and two by
Amy Burns (Winona, Minn.).
Sara Spears equalled Gilles' game-high effort with 15 points, while Katrina Wilberts chipped in 12 points and 11 rebounds, and Kasey Bostow tallied 10 points.
