ST. PETER, Minn. — Ryan Stinson (Winona, Minn.) scored two goals and Eric Richardson (Skokie, Ill.) recorded his second collegiate shutout as the Saint Mary's University men's hockey team completed a season-ending sweep of Gustavus with a 3-0 win Saturday evening.
Stinson scored the game's first two goals and Richardson stopped all 23 shots he faced as SMU closed out the season with back-to-back wins over the Gusties. SMU had beaten Gustavus 4-1 on Friday.
The Cardinals (4-8-4, 9-12-4) scored single goals in all three periods, with Stinson netting his first at the 9:23 mark of the first period and his second at the 9:57 mark of the second. Al Schumacher (Oakdale, Minn.) accounted for SMU's other goal at the 5:09 mark of the third period.
Stinson's two goals gave him a team-leading 20 goals for the season and the junior forward was tied with Todd Hangge (Rochester, Minn.) for the team led in points with 30.
